Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Lavender & Sage Review

A good natural deodorant is hard to find. There are lots available in stores and online, but the real task is finding one that actually works. Especially if you lead an active lifestyle. The folks at Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant wanted to make something that was not only natural, but also effective. I have tried other Schmidt’s scents in the past and even recommended them in an article I wrote for Vegan Health & Fitness Magazine. I was very excited to see if this scent worked as well as the others that I have tried.

Now that the July Beauty Box I co-curated for Petit Vour has been revealed, I am so excited to share my thoughts on each item inside with you! As I have stated several times, all items in the box are things that I love and use myself. Because of that, I may be a bit biased with my reviews. Several scents of Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant were included in the boxes – Lavender & Sage, Bergamot & Lime, and Ylang-Ylang & Calendula. Schmidt’s also makes two other scents – Cedarwood & Juniper (read my review of this scent) and Unscented.

Claims: “By eliminating underarm odor and wetness without the use of harmful chemicals, Schmidt’s offers a no-guilt alternative to conventional brands. The clean, herbaceous fragrance of Lavender + Sage is tranquil and soothing. Antioxidant and antiseptic properties complement this top-selling deodorant.”

Ingredients: Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Salvia sclarea (clary sage) essential oil, Lavandula (lavender) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Pros: Cruelty free and vegan formula. Aluminum free. Paraben free. Phthalate free. Re-useable and recyclable packaging. Made in the USA. Smooth and creamy formula. Easy to apply. Melts into skin easily. Great natural scent.

Cons: This is not necessarily a con, but some people may need to adjust to applying deodorant with their fingers instead of from a tube. Schmidt’s currently only comes in jars. I have received a lot of feedback that people like the formula and think it works well, but wish that it came in a tube.

The Verdict: There’s a reason that Schmidt’s was included in the July Petit Vour beauty box – I love it! This is one of the two natural deodorants that actually works for me. I like that the formula is really smooth. It easily warms up and is easily absorbed by my skin. Personally, I don’t mind that this deodorant is applied with my fingers. Since the ingredients are so natural, just washing my hands after is all I need to do. I honestly do not usually like lavender scents but I do like this one. It smells very natural and just like real lavender. The scent is not at all artificial. Plus, the combination of lavender and sage work really well together to keep me smelling fresh.

Several scents of Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant are currently available to purchase online from Petit Vour. This product is available in the July Petit Vour Beauty Box that I co-curated for Petit Vour!  This box is also currently still available!

  1. I’m really interested in trying this deodorant. I’ve recently tried a similar type “small-crafter” product but the butters/beeswax combo turned out to be too hard on cool mornings making it difficult to use. This however doesn’t contain beeswax so I’m guessing the problem doesn’t exist. I also thought it might be weird to have to use your fingers to apply, but got over that really quickly. It’s funny how we don’t mind slathering creams anywhere else on our body but that there’s a bit of a tendency to balk at applying deodorant to our underarms. The scents sound lovely.

    1. My guess is that the beeswax was probably contributing to it being hard on cool mornings. I also can’t think of any reason why beeswax would be at all necessary in order for the deodorant to be effective. Give Schmidt’s a try! It’s wonderful stuff!

  2. I also got the Bergamot and Lime scent, and am in love! I had already been using an all natural deodorant that I wasn’t thrilled with, but was using it anyhow because I didn’t hate it. But after trying the Schmidt’s, I know I’m not going back. Great product!

  3. I have the Cedarwood (the Lavender is always sold out!) and i really like it. Mine came with a little spatula so even though i do apply it by hand, i don’t actually have to dip my fingers in.

  4. I didn’t think I would enjoy dipping my finger in and applying by hand, but like you said- it’s really painless! Just a quick rinse afterwards and you’re done~! I got the Bergamont and Lime scent in my Petit Vour Box and I loooooovveee it! A great pick! :3
