Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review & Uses

Coconut oil is a product that I’ve been interested in for a long time. I kept hearing about what a great multipurpose household item it is. From cooking to beauty products and even cleaning – coconut oil is definitely a product with hundreds of uses from one jar. When Tropical Traditions offered to send me a jar of their USDA Certified Organic Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil I couldn’t wait to try it.
I used coconut oil for cooking and for some beauty uses as well. I was really happy with the Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil. A little bit really goes a long way, so the 32 ounce jar is a great value. It’s definitely a product that I will continue to purchase in the future due to the variety of uses.

1. Moisturizer – This stuff is absolutely amazing for keeping your skin soft and moisturized. I especially loved using it as a cuticle cream. My boyfriend uses it to keep his ears moisturized when he isn’t wearing plugs in his lobes. It’s also great to use as a lip balm. A little bit goes a long way when it comes to moisturizing. I’d love to try mixing coconut oil with essential oils in the future for this purpose.
2. Deep Conditioner – Coconut oil worked wonders to make my hair soft. I’d massage a couple of tablespoons into my hair, focusing on the ends of my hair, then cover with a plastic bag and leave on for at least an hour. Shampoo two or three times with a gentle shampoo, condition, and you’re left with super soft strands.
3. Cooking – I used coconut oil in place of oil in several stir fry’s and for making tofu scramble as well. It’s a great substitute and leaves a tiny bit of real coconut taste in your food. I have to admit that at first it was a bit strange (my first attempt at cooking with coconut oil was also a tofu scramble), but I loved how it tasted. It’s a great way to add some extra flavor to your food. Check out these Coconut Oil Recipes from Tropical Traditions for more ideas. There are lots of vegan recipes and recipes that can easily be made vegan.
4. Animal Diet Supplement – Living with two cats, I quickly discovered how much they love coconut oil. I did a lot of online research and found that it’s not only safe for pets, but also good for them. I gave them each small teaspoons of coconut oil as treats and also rub it into their coats. This keeps their fur healthy from the inside out and will help with any skin issues they might have as a result of the changes in weather. I’ve also read that it can help prevent/rid animals of flea and tick problems.
5. Increased Energy – When I use coconut oil as a regular part of my diet I definitely felt like I had more energy. I’ve read that a lot of people feel this way. Some people eat a spoonful a day on it’s own. I preferred to use it with cooking. I’ve also heard that mixing a teaspoon into your coffee gives it a great flavor (remind me to try this tomorrow morning!).

I just wanted to add to this post that I am using the coconut oil on my lobes which have been well healed for many years.
I also want to add how happy I have been using the coconut oil on my hands as a moisturizer. For years I have had issues with my hands drying out, and when I say dry I mean the skin on my hands drys out so badly it cracks and bleeds. I’ve tried a number of different products, since I became vegan several years ago I have been using natural products such as jojoba butter and cocoa butter but as of right now I am really stoked on this coconut oil. It smells great, it keeps my skin super soft, it doesn’t clog my pores and even the kitties love it.
Good note to mention about your lobes! I didn’t think to do so, but it’s really important to cover that detail.
I also love coconut oil! I’ve been using it as a moisturizer for a few years now and it keeps my skin soft and smooth without clogging my pores or feeling heavy on my face. I was unaware of the pet benefits, but in hindsight, it makes perfect sense. My dog goes CRAZY every morning when I rub coconut oil on and I could never figure out why he loved it so much. I will definitely be adding this to their diets!
I have no idea how I had never tried it until recently. I had been hearing about it for years but I think that it was probably the cost that make it hard for me. Now I realize how much use you get out of a jar and that the cost per use is super cheap!
I found out the cats loved it so much when I dropped a chunk of coconut oil and one ran off with it before I could even bend over! They go crazy for it.
Oh, almost forgot, your boyfriend is adorable! Vegan men are the BEST! (I’m ALSO going to recommend the ear moisturizer to my BF).
Yes. He is adorable.
He’s also been a huge & amazing help to me during this process of going completely vegan. Not to mention, also a great cooking buddy.
