The Dark Side of the Beauty Business

While this is a beauty blog, I think that it’s really important to stress that the media and the beauty industry does a lot of damage. After all, it’s what’s unique about you that makes you beautiful. I found this image online and couldn’t resist sharing it with the readers of Logical Harmony.

  1. Eh, the beauty industry doesn’t bug me. I actually feel prettier when I look at beauty and fashion mags. The chemicals and crap are a lot worse than the pressure on women in my opinion. Maybe it’s part of where I live – Outside of high school, not really much pressure to conform with how you look – and having good genes. That sounds really obnoxious but I am generally happy with the way I look. I did have a major awkward phase (with HORRIBLE skin in particular) but I was never comparing myself to advertisements, only my peers.

    • The beauty industry doesn’t bother me a whole lot, but I do think that little things (like that employees who have worse looks make less) are an issue. I also find the statistics, even just on spending, really interesting.

I never compared myself to advertisements either, but I know that a lot of girls did/do. I really just think it’s important to help promote a healthy body image and really make sure people know beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc etc.
