The Basic Blazer Five Ways
Published May 25, 2009 at 10:33 am 2 CommentsOne classic item that I finally invested in this year was a basic blazer. The one that I purchased it a shrunken fit, navy blue wool style with 3/4 length sleeves and 3 front pockets (one on the chest and two at the waist). Since purchasing it, I’ve realized exactly why blazers are such a classic and timeless option. It’s quickly become one of the most worn items in my closet for good reason. You can get endless amounts of wear out a high quality piece and they really do go with everything. Here, I’ll show you The Basic Blazer Five Ways. For this entire piece, I decided to use the Silence & Noise Menswear Blazer from Urban Outfitters. It’s a great cut for every body shape and is at an affordable price. After seeing how versatile a basic blazer really is, my guess is that you’ll be wanting to get your hands on one as well.

Blazer, Floral Dress & Gladiator Heels : I love the mix of feminine and masculine styles in this look. Like all others here, this features the Silence & Noise Menswear Blazer. A strapless floral dress is the easiest way to add a flirty, bright, and feminine touch to the look. I like the Daisy Tulle Dress from Forever 21. It’s bold color and great pattern, combined with the full tulle skirt, make it perfect to pair with a blazer. Gladiator sandals, like the Alicce Heels from Steve Madden add a touch of edge to this look and help balance out the two sides. They will look even better if they are nude heels. Finish with a chunky charm bracelet, like the Mixed Charm Chain Bracelet from Forever 21.

Blazer, Basic Striped Tee, Khakis & Converse : Personally, this is my favorite way to wear my blazer. Though I usually wear a pair of medium wash denim jeans instead of khakis, I think it’s important to keep them in mind as a great summer option. This look is crisp and fresh and will look great no matter what the current trends are. I prefer thick stripes over thin and the combination of navy and white. Of course, start with the Silence & Noise Menswear Blazer. The Striped Summer T from Gap is a great example of a basic striped tee. Everyone needs a great pair of khaki’s on hand. The Straight Khaki Trousers from Gap are a great option. I love Converse All Star Slip-On from Journey’s and wear them with everything. Not into Chucks? Flat sandals are another great option for this look. With a look that is so simple and tomboy-styled, I like to throw in some girly accessories. The It Girl Charm Bracelet from Juicy Couture is the perfect example.

Blazer, Graphic Tee, Distressed Skinnies, & Booties : I once saw pictures of Drew Barrymore out in a vintage graphic tee with a cardigan, dark jeans, and boots. This look is very much inspired by Drew Barrymore and her personal style, which I happen to love. Like the other looks, this also features the Silence & Noise Menswear Blazer. Pair it with a vintage graphic or logo tee. I like the look of vintage concert tees, like this Jimi Hendrix Tee from Forever 21. Destroyed and distressed denim or black jeans are the way to go with this look. I like the Destroyed Chain Link Jeans from Go Jane, but would remove the chain. The Brianda Slouched Boots from Forever 21 are the perfect slouchy boots for this outfit. A bit country and a bit vintage, but also very versatile. For accessories, go with the hippie flow of the shirt and pair with the Crinkled Tie Dye Scarf from Forever 21 and the Dove Disc Hook Earrings from Forever 21.

Blazer, Button Up Shirt, White Jeans, Studded Heels : The white jeans and studded heels are a great change to this classic combination. Start with the Silence & Noise Menswear Blazer, of course. Pair it with a basic button up shirt like the Gabriela Woven from Abercrombie & Fitch. Personally, I love their woven button ups because they fit people with smaller frames. I can never find ones that fit me properly anywhere but Abercrombie & Fitch. Instead of reaching for your staple dark wash skinny jeans, try something new and wear white skinnies instead. The Fab Colored Skinny Jean from Forever 21 is a great budget friendly pair for those who don’t want to invest a lot in this trend. A large leather satchel style bag would go great with this look. Something that’s business like but large enough to fit something like a laptop computer inside. Because everything else about this outfit is so preppy, go to the opposite extreme by pairing it with studded heels. The Brigght Heels from Steve Madden are a great example. Finish with a chunky necklace, like the Vintage Flower Necklace from Forever 21.

Blazer, Ruffled Cami, Dark Jeans & Flats : Of course, this look starts with the Silence & Noise Menswear Blazer. I’m always a fan of anything with ruffles and I especially love how they look with blazers. The Satin Ruffle Bubble Top from Love 21 by Forever 21 isn’t over the top and adds just enough texture. Plus, I love the bright aqua shade! Pair them with some dark wash jeans. Either go with a good dark blue wash or a dark grey, like the Cyprien Straight Leg Jean from Forever 21. Sequins are making a big comeback this year and are best in small doses, like the Cami Flats from Steve Madden. To add even more of an over the top girly feel to this look, finish with the Triple Lacquered Flora Necklace from Forever 21. Personally, I would wear this as a bracelet and not as a necklace because the ruffles keep the neckline busy as it is.
