The other day I had to retire my hair straightener. After over 2 years of working wonderfully, I turned it on to let it heat up, and it started smoking! So, in the meantime, it’s blow outs for me. To be honest, I am amazed at the use I got out of it. The hair straightener was under $20.00 USD and I used it nearly every single day for over 2 years. Sounds like a wonder item, huh? It was the Conair CS19JCS Instant Heat Ceramic Hair Straightener.
While it would be a good investment to spend the money on a flat iron that you know is going to last you ages, like a Chi or a Sedu, this one by Conair is the best flat iron out there for those on a budget. It didn’t pull my hair, heated up quickly like it promised and, most importantly, lasted and lasted. To say that I got my money’s worth is probably an understatement here. I bought the flat iron expecting it to last a few months. Really, as something to hold me over while I saved up for a more expensive model. You can read many other positive reviews on Amazon.com. I would both recommend this product and buy it again.
Of course, part of the reason why it lasted so long is due to proper care. The most important thing that you can do to help your hair straightener last longer, and to do less damage to your hair, is clean it. When you use a heat protecting spray, balm, or cream on your hair before you touch it with styling tools, (which you should be doing every single time heat is going to be near your hair) it can leave build up on the plates of your flat iron. Removing this build up is incredibly easy. Once or twice a week, let your hair straightener heat up, then run over the plates with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol. Use cotton swabs to get the hard to reach areas. Do this until a cotton ball run over the plates comes off clean. If you have build up on your hair straightener plates, you will notice a huge difference in how easily it glides over your hair.
Thanks to Marsadie, I should have a replacement hair straightener soon. You are too sweet, girl! ♥
Note to self, pick up some new ink pens later!
