One Outfit : Inspired by Courtney Love

Whether you love her or hate her, it can’t be denied that Courtney Love has had an impact on the fashion world. Love got her taste for fashion working in a costume department where she was surrounded by racks of clothing items that were truly inspired by the Victorian styles of the past. During the grunge years of the 1990′s (pictured on the right with former husband Kurt Cobain of Nirvana),
her Anna Sui baby-doll dresses were combined with Mary-Jane shoes, vintage inspired lace items, bows, red lip stick, and black eyeliner to create what became known as the Kinderwhore look. Whether or not Courtney herself is the one that created this look, it was her signature style, and she became a style icon for the grunge era. Some elements of this look have now transformed into today’s more innocent Lolita style (more of which can be seen in the post Fashion Inspiration : Sweet Lolita Style in Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan).
While Courtney’s style has definitely changed and evolved over the years (she’s now moved on to Marc Jacobs), her influence still remains. When I saw the Passiflore Bady Dress in Pink it immediately reminded me of Love and her early style. It would look great with some classic Mary-Jane heels, like the Forever 21 Andrea Mary Jane in Black. Add in a cute handbag,
like the giant bow adorned Forever 21 Striped Cotton Handbag in Black & Cream. An antique style ring, like the Forever 21 Rose Portrait Ring in Gold & Cream, and strings of fake pearls, such as the Forever 21 Double Bead Necklace in Cream, help to complete the look. If you want to add some hair accessories, the Forever 21 Bow Snap Hairclip in Clear and the Forever 21 Rhinestone Embellished Hairclip in Pink would be perfect. So would a headband with a bow.
The make up for this look is simple – red lips and black eyes. Try out Stila Smudge Pots Eyeliner in Black for a liner that will go on easily and can be slightly smudged. Layer on a great mascara, like Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara in Black. Add a touch of color to your cheeks with Benefit’s Benetint. It will add color without looking too obvious, and will help keep your face from looking washed out by the other make up. Finish with a red lipstick, such as Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Hellbent.

I love Courtney Love. I don’t want to be like her (haha), but I love watching her and I dig her style. I saw your link on Twitter and got really excited to read this post!
I love the look that you put together. Yay BADgal! Also, I’m so much more impressed now that I know you put looks together yourself and not with Polyvore like cheater me.
I love the outfit you put together! And you’re dead on about Courtney Love; I may not like her, but I do like her sense of style.
Every time I come here you make me wish I had tones of money to buy the stuff you post about!
