My Beauty & Health Resolutions for 2012

My Beauty & Health Resolutions for 2012

I typically don’t do the whole New Years Resolution deal. I feel like year after year people set the bar a bit too high with their goals and then end up frustrated and giving up on them. After putting together the Best of Logical Harmony in 2011 post, I decided that I want the 2012 version to be even bigger. This year my main goal is to stay motivated, try new things, and stay inspired.  So I decided that the best way to do so would be to publicly post My Beauty & Health Resolutions for 2012 here on Logical Harmony. I’m also going to make a blog dream board, but that’s for an entirely separate post.

  1. Find the best vegan makeup for me. While I had found products that worked great for me and 95% of them were from the same company, the companies wavering stance on animal testing and vegan products has made me feel the need to replace them all. I’ve asked the company three different times about their stance on testing and if they offer vegan products, and have gotten three different answers. If I can’t get a straight answer, I’m not going to trust any answer the company gives me. I’m extremely picky about all of my makeup products. I want them to do what they claim, not cost an arm and a leg (or at least be worth that arm and leg!) and actually match my skin tone. Somehow, this seems to be impossible. I’m not going to give up though. 2012 will be the year that I will hopefully find all my perfect products in a vegan formula.
  2. Get in shape! For real!! Somehow, I’m lucky enough to have a good balance between a healthy vegan diet and genetics that keep me in my size 0 jeans without working out on the regular. No matter what your size, I feel like everyone can use some toning and the amazing health benefits of working out. Thanks to JC of Atalante, this is going to be a lot easier than I had anticipated. Through her blog, I won her amazing Get Fit Giveaway that is going to give me all the gear I need to get started. I just need to make sure that I stay motivated and on track. JC posts a lot of really inspiring fitness blog entries, as does Katy. If you know of any other awesome fitness blogs, please let me know!
  3. Make more of my own beauty products. I love knowing exactly what is in the stuff that I use. Since I decided to live a vegan lifestyle and give up all products that were tested on animals and contain animal ingredients, I’ve had a lot of fun finding replacements. It’s been a really eye-opening experience to think about all the bits and pieces of animals I was putting on my body and I’m happy to have made the change. Spending so much time investigating the ingredients of products has also made me realize how easy so many of them are to make. So why not make them myself!?
  4. Try  new recipes and share them on Logical Harmony. I love to cook and I love food. I want to learn how to cook a lot of new foods this year, and I’d love to be able to share more about food and diet with the readers here. It’s always been really important to me to know what I’m putting in my body. Not that I don’t eat my share of junk too, but it’s all about finding a balance. Feeding yourself with real food makes you look and feel better. It’s a win-win.

My one and only resultion is to use skin products with the least chemicals possible – preferably organic.

I also do a lot of home made skin care recipes – check them out sometimes!

I don’t know what your skin is like, but I saw a big positive change when I stopped using foundation altogether. I put it on for events and things where I know I’ll be photographed but other than that I stick to blush or bronzer with an eye or lip look. I do really like mineral powder foundation (although I don’t know how hard that is to find totally vegan. seems like it would be vegan but who knows – I assume I’d be surprised) but I go through that stuff SO FAST that it’s almost not worth it!

I don’t have problem skin, but use foundation because I just love the look of it. I feel much more polished with it than without. It gives all my other makeup a better base and I feel like it all goes on a lot smoother when I have primer and foundation on.

Earthly Body sent me some of their mineral makeup and while I like theirs, I don’t like every other mineral makeup I’ve tried. Most of it’s vegan, but not all. Like you said – you’d be surprised at what’s in some stuff! Overall, I felt like most mineral makeup I tried was more obvious on my skin than liquid foundation. It also settles weird and doesn’t stay in place as well as liquid, even with a primer.

I am totally looking forward to your recipe posts! I’m dabbling in veganism but am generally too lazy to cook. I’d love to see easy vegan recipes!

That’s so great that you are starting to take interest in a vegan diet! :) I’ll definitely keep your requests in mind when I make some recipe posts.
