How To Wear Vintage : From Who What Wear TV

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I’m loving the comeback that vintage style is having. I’ve always been a sucker for anything vintage. Back in middle and high school, my sister would take me to this giant vintage store in Portland, OR called Big Bang and we would spend hours sifting through bins and racks of clothing from the 1950’s thru the 1970’s. While I had a collection of many great items (such as stamped leather purses from the 1960’s, flowy floral print blouses from the 1960’s, and patterned pearl-buttoned blouses from the 1970’s), it was always hard for me to work vintage into my wardrobe. Because of this, I, quite unfortunately, ended up getting rid of most of my vintage collection. I know, I know… It was a terrible idea!

I’m still in love with vintage fashions and now that it’s coming back into style again, I wish that I could get my hands on half the stuff that I used to own. Especially now that there are guides, like this great How To Wear Vintage : From Who What Wear TV one that would have helped me a great deal. Featuring Sienna Miller and Rachel Bilson, this episode of Who What Wear TV shows you the best ways to incorporate vintage pieces into your everyday look.

What do you think of the vintage trend? Is it more than just a trend?

Fall Fashion & Beauty Trends I Can’t Wait For

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

As the mornings and nights are getting a bit cooler out, I’m definitely getting more and more excited about fall fashion and beauty items. I’ve been really into listing lately and wanted to make a list of all the fashion and beauty items that I am looking forward to the most this fall.

+ Getting to wear Ugg’s. I love my tall chestnut ones, and would love to get some crochet ones, like the ones featured here.
+ Dark vampy nail polish. I love burgundy shades the most.
+ An excuse to pull out the black liquid liner as often as possible.
+ Being able to layer as much as I like without getting weird looks. I tend to wear at least 3 layers every day (usually two tanks and a shirt). In the summer, people find this a bit odd. I see it as a chance to add some extra color and texture to a look.
+ Knee socks. I love knee socks. Especially argyle ones.
+ Slouchy boots. I didn’t pick up a pair last year and have decided that, no matter what, I will this year.
+ Scarves. Again, people look at your strange when you wear them in the summer. You can wear them every day in the fall if you like.

What are some of the fall fashion and beauty trends that you are excited about?

Win a Free Handbag from Handbag Planet

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Win a Free Handbag from Handbag Planet I love when I get e-mails about promotions being run by upcoming boutiques! One that I am really excited for is a promotion to Win a Free Handbag from Handbag Planet! On October 15, 2008 (which is the day the site will launch) they are going to be giving away one handbag every hour for the full 24 hours. The handbags that will be sold on Handbag Planet are all imitations of expensive designer handbags. Since trends come and go so fast, it’s a great way to get the look for less. Personally, I find fake designer handbags to be extremely tacky but love handbags that are simply inspired by designer bags, just like the ones that Handbag Planet is going to offer. Once the site is launched, the bags are going to be sold at anywhere from $30.00 USD to $80.00 USD. To me, that’s the perfect price to spend on a trendy handbag. :)

Win a Free Handbag from Handbag Planet Definitely sign up for this promotion while you can! All of the bags that are going to be given away are very cute styles. I’m trying to sign up for it right now, but just can’t pick what one I want to try to win! I can’t decide between the black handbag pictured on the left and the green handbag pictured on the right. I love that the black one is patent alligator print. I think that they gold hardware would be really great for fall too. The green handbag is such a great style, but I’m just not sure if it’s a color I could easily work into my wardrobe. Help me decide which one to pick! Please leave me a comment on this entry with your suggestion! Don’t forget to sign up for this promotion before October 15, 2008! Which handbag are you going to try and win?

How To Wear Scarves : From Who What Wear TV

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

One of my favorite internet pleasures is Who What Wear TV. You can get great and quick updates on what’s hot in fashion and beauty as well as how to wear the latest styles and trends. I loved the recent episode, How To Wear Scarves, which features celebrities such as Rihanna, Kate Hudson, and Claudia Schiffer. I’ve done my take on Stealing Jessica Alba’s Scarf Style, but this video really shows you a lot of great tips for styling different types of scarves.

Are you planning on stocking up for scarves for fall? What style is your favorite?

The Best Casual Plaids For Fall : Inspired by Lauren Conrad

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

One of my favorite fall trends is plaid. Not only is plaid a great print that will never go out of style, but everything about it just reminds me of fall. One celebrity that’s been wearing a lot of plaid lately is Lauren Conrad of The Hills fame. While I’ve actually never seen the show, I do love that the girls from The Hills and related shows (with the exception of Heidi Montag) do a great job of representing the current trends and styles out there. Especially Audrina Patridge and Lauren Conrad. What I have loved most recently is how LC has incorporated casual plaid button ups into her wardrobe. So, this post is all about The Best Casual Plaids For Fall : Inspired by Lauren Conrad.

The Best Casual Plaids For Fall : Inspired by Lauren Conrad

Alright, so it isn’t exactly completely casual but I couldn’t resist the Kimchi Blue Plaid Ruffle Neck Blouse. We all know that I’ve been lusting for Ruffled Blouses and this is no exception. It’d be great to wear with some dark wash skinny denim and peep toe pumps. The Urban Renewal Shrunken Flannel is quite similar to the one that Lauren Conrad is wearing (pictured center). I love that it’s a bit on the grungy side and makes me want to pull out my Nirvana vinyl albums. I’d be great with a slightly more feminine top underneath, destroyed skinny jeans, and black Converse All Star Chuck’s.

One Outfit : From Preppy To Edgy

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

As any regular readers know, I am always open to ideas and suggestions for blog topics, outfit recreations, and pretty much any idea you can think of. J recently asked me to create an outfit using items from a preppier store, like Abercrombie & Fitch, and to use them to create an edgier look. I loved the idea and had to do it! Let me know what you think of the look!

One Outfit : From Preppy To Edgy

For this look, I wanted to mix the classic preppy style with some current edgy trends. I decided to pair a basic yet feminine top, the Veronica Tank in Cream, with the Brett Super Skinny Jeans in Dark Rinse. A blazer, like the Annmarie Blazer in Navy, is the perfect jacket for all styles. It can easily be dressed up or down to fit any look. For shoes, I loved the look of the patent Mary Jane style Betsey Johnson Rylie Double Strap Pump in Black. The bold silver buttons were too cute of an addition to the innocent style to pass up.

With this look, I loved the idea of bold accessories and lots of them. I picked the Abercrombie Kids Vintage Checked Scarf in Navy because a scarf really seemed to tie the preppy parts of the outfit together. The Betsey Johnson Bracelet Watch in Silver is a great example of how sexy a menswear style watch can be. Wanting to add layers, I thought that the Studded Bracelet Set in Silver and the Empress Bracelet Set in Clear & Cream would be perfect. One is sexy and edgy while the other is innocent and classically preppy. They perfectly contrast and compliment each other in this look. One trend that is going to be really big this fall are the double handed handbags. Having two handles of different lengths (a short handle and a long strap) make the bag very versatile. Especially when it’s a great patent one like the Foley + Corinna Glazed City Clutch in Cranberry.

For cosmetics, not only is black eyeliner in, but so are grey eyes, nude lips, and dark nails. I loved that the Dior Vernis polish in Mystic Violine was not only a gorgeous burgundy, but that it also matched the handbag. Using the Benefit BADgal Pencil, Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara, and the NARS Duo Eye Shadow in Paris (silver shimmer/ matte gray) one can easily re-create this falls sexy look for evening. Use the gray shadow to create a smokey eye, line your top lashes and the outer corners of your bottom lash line, then add several coats of mascara. Finish with NARS Lip Gloss in Orgasm, which happens to be my favorite gloss (which is probably obvious by the number of posts it’s featured or mentioned in.)

What do you think of this outfit? Do you have any ideas for posts that you would like to see? Let me know! :)

My Fall Fashion Wish List

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Fall is probably my favorite season. There are far too many reasons to list why I love fall fashion. Great colors, textured fabrics, lots of layers, nature prints, the return of the casual smokey eye, sweaters, cardigans, knee socks, woven hats, boots of all kinds… The list goes on and on. Truth be told, I love any season that gives me an excuse to buy and wear any of the items listed above. There are a few items that I’m lusting for this season and that make up My Fall Fashion Wish List. The four main items that I would love to add to my closet are ruffled blouses, boots, patterned jackets, and textured tights. Narrowing it down to my four favorites of each of those was so hard! What’s on your fall fashion wish list?

My Fall Fashion Wish List : Ruffled Blouses

1. Ruffled Blouses : It’s probably obvious to anyone who regularly reads this blog but, I’m a total sucker for any over the top feminine style. This is probably why I am so excited about all the ruffles that are going to be everywhere this fall. Especially the ruffled blouses. They are the perfect go-to piece to have in your closet. Wear one with dark wash skinny jeans, ballet flats and a cardigan for an outfit that’s simple and easy but looks put together. Pair them with pencil skirts and peep toe heels. Or with high waist trouser pants and oxford heels. Ruffled blouses go with everything. The Kimchi Blue Ruffle Button-Up Shirt would look great with skinny jeans and boots. The D&G Dolce & Gabbana Ruffle Blouse Grosgrain Ribbon Back Tie is the perfect top for a sophisticated pencil skirt. The Rendez-Vous by Paul & Joe Sister Impetueux Top would perfectly balance out masculine trousers and oxfords. The Kimchi Blue Ruffle Blouse just goes with everything!
