Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay

The demand for cruelty free and vegan cosmetics and beauty products has been on the rise in recent years. As more and more people become aware of the issues regarding animal testing, and as more people switch to a vegan lifestyle, cruelty free and vegan products have become more available on the market. Though you used to only be able to find them in health food stores, I was so happy to see that Urban Decay, an already cruelty free company, has started marketing vegan items!! Not all of their cosmetics items are vegan, unfortunately. But, they have now created a wide range of products that are and are identifying them for consumers. Just look for the purple paw on their website. I wanted a create a short list featuring some of the vegan products that they have marketed.

Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay Eyeshadow : Urban Decay eyeshadow is one of their best selling products and is available in nearly 50 shades. Of those, a whopping 25 shades are vegan. The best selling shades are now almost all vegan. This includes : Baked (rich bronze), Chopper (coppery fawn with silver microglitter), Flipside (electric teal with blue sheen), Half Baked (subtle, lustrous bronze), Maui Wowie (medium gold with silver glitter), Midnight Cowboy Rides Again (golden beige with bronze, gold & silver glitter), Mildew (deep green), Oil Slick (black with silver glitter), Smog (deep coppery bronze), Vapor (very light silver) and more.

Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay Smoke Out Eye Pencil : This liner makes for amazing smoky eyes. According to the company, it is a “pencil filled with a long-lasting, powdery matte formula – like eye shadow in a pencil.” Use the sponge tip end to blend as much as you like. The best part? All shades are vegan! Choose from Green Goddess (intense green), Mary Jane (midnight blue), Maui Wowie (dark khaki), Purple Haze (deep purple), and Smoke Out (charcoal black). They would all make amazing shades for dramatic smoky eyes.

Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay Loose Pigment : MAC Cosmetics has the best known pigments, but Urban Decay makes some awesome ones too. Theirs come in a tube, instead of a pot, and have a built in brush to minimize product loss. Another plus, aside from being vegan that is ;), is that it is made from mineral makeup that is made from pearlized powders that are derived from minerals. Without synthetic pigments or dyes. There are 12 shades total, and 10 shades are vegan.Vegan shades include : Baked (rich bronze), Goddess (midnight blue with electric blue microglitter), Graffiti (bright green), Rockstar (dark purple in black base with silver/purple microglitter), Shag (pale bronze), Shattered (bright green/blue), and Yeyo (bright white).

Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay XXX Shine Gloss : This super shiny gloss has a hint of peppermint in it. Perfect for those of us who love unbelievably shiny lips. There are 8 vegan shades out of 12 glosses. Vegan shades include : Baked (bronze with lots of golden sparkle), Guys Love Betsey (sheer candy apple red), Heatherette (shimmering beige with a touch of silver sparkle), JoyRide bright pink with silver shimmer), Kinky (rosy-pink with silver shimmer), Love Junkie (deep but very sheer wine), Ozone (pure, clear shine), and Quickie (sizzling sheer hot pink).

Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay Shot-O-Gloss : I was so excited when I saw that these fun cocktail flavored glosses are vegan! These glosses go on smooth, not sticky, and leave a tint of color. They are the perfect little pick-me-up to keep in your purse and are a gloss that you won’t get bored of. Once again, all shades are vegan : Cosmopolitan (pink shimmer; Cosmo – sweet and tart), Mai Tai (golden shimmer; Mai Tai – tropical fruit), and Pina Colada (white shimmer; Pina Colada - pineapple & coconut).

Vegan & Cruelty Free Cosmetics by Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadows : A step up from the regular eyeshadow line, Deluxe Eyeshadows have more intense colors and a formula that allows them to blend easier. Not to mention their chic packaging. Out of 12 shades, 6 are vegan. Vegan shades include : Graffiti (bright green), Honey (glistening gold), Peace (shimmering turquoise), Shag (light bronze), Underground (medium fawn), and Zero (smoking black).

These are just a small sampling of the vegan products offered by Urban Decay. Check out the full list here. Once again, all of the vegan formulas are marked with a purple paw print. You can pick them up online at Urban Decay, or anywhere that Urban Decay products are sold. The fact that you can now find vegan cosmetics and beauty products at places other than health food stores, and in shades that appeal to a wider variety of styles, is amazing. Please check out these products and do your part to help support cruelty free products!

I love Urban Decay cosmetics, I have some of their foundation but I never wear it because it doesn’t match my skin tone.

Doesn’t the company that makes Urban Decay also make Hard Candy?

  2. J Says:

What animal products are used in non-vegan products?

  3. Tashina Says:

Crystal - You’re right, they are owned by the same company. :) I’ve been putting together a post on them too.

J - Lots of things can make a product non-vegan, not just if it contains animal products. A surprising amount of cosmetics do contain animal products. Others label products that are 100% not tested on animals as vegan. If you read labels of a lot of popular brands, Bath & Body Works for example, they just say “finished product not tested on animals”.
