Some Personal Fashion Tips…
Personal fashion and style are incredibly personal and a reflection of each individual. It’s a way to express who you are. Both to yourself and to others. Just like everyone else, my personal style and fashion tastes have evolved over the years. In that time, I’ve come up with some fashion tips and bits of advice that I try to live by.
1. Ignore the number on the tag. Due to fashion sizing, which so many companies participate in, the size number is pretty irrelevant. Buy whatever size is the most flattering on you. If you are bothered by the number, then simply remove the size tag. Obsessing over sizes isn’t going to make you happy, and squeezing yourself into the wrong fit isn’t going to make you look good either.
2. Dress for yourself, not others. Fashion is a form of artistic expression. Try different and new things. Who cares if it’s not the current trend or if your friends don’t like it! Not being afraid to wear what you like and show off your personal style shows that you have confidence in yourself.
3. Be comfortable in what you wear. This goes hand in hand with the above tips. How comfortable someone is in their attire comes across in their body language and attitude. If you aren’t wearing something that fits you properly (physically or not), that you feel confident in, or that isn’t your personal taste, it will show. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Being awkward is far worse.
4. Be confident in what you wear. Confidence is the key to pulling off any outfit. If you are having second thoughts about pieces that you love, ask for the advice of an honest friend that you know will tell you the truth. Knowing that you look fierce will put an extra swing in your step and help you pull off anything.
5. Keep classic items on hand. There are some days where you can tear through your entire closet, trying on multiple outfits, and still feel like nothing looks good or that you have nothing to wear. This is where classic items come in very handy. You can throw them on in a pinch, know that you look put together, and confidently go about your day.
6. Stand up straight. Good posture makes everything you wear look better. Simple as that.
7. Try new things. Love a fashion item but not sure if the look is for you? Don’t be scared, just try it! Even if it’s only in the fitting room of a store with a friend. Or at home in front of the mirror and you end up returning the items. If you are interested in an item, give it a shot. You never know. You might surprise yourself by what new items you can pull off.

The minute I turned 18 I was pierced pierced pierced. I get a piercing a year at least. I have my septum, navel and nipples. And I have had my lip, monroe and the side of my nose and could probably still get jewelry though some of them.
GREAT POST! I love how often you’re posting lately.
I’ve been trying to ignore size tags as much as possible. Very very true. And I definitely like having easy staples to wear. I used to wear very elaborately put-together outfits all the time, but recently I majorly do that thing where I try on a hundred things and always end up in jeans and a black tank.

Trying new things is a way of life for me. People have given me flack for crazy trends I’ve adapted in the past, only to see everyone wearing them months later when it’s finally ‘trendy.’ Go figure!

Marsadie, it’s the same here! I was totally made fun of back in late spring when I wanted a pair of oxfords to wear with mens style trouser pants!

I’m all about Classic items! Without my black or white plain t-shirts, or my plain tanks, I don’t know what I would do sometimes.
Also, as for the sizing, you’re absolutely right. I’ve had jeans that range from different sizes but all fit me the same way. It’s all about comfort and how you look, not about the number!

I still haven’t reached the point where I’m really comfortable in something I wear. Or, at least very rarely.
I need to supplement my closet.

Wow those are very interesting tips! Thanks for sharing them. I always tend to pick the same size even when it’s too small just because that particular item was too small. I used to buy shoes that were one size too big, as well, lol.

Great tips! I especially agree about the sizing…so many girls squeeze into clothes that are waaaay too tight and totally unflattering just to call themselves a “size 2″ or whatever…I’ve always been of the mind that clothes look better when the FIT. Who cares what the tag says? Nobody can see that anyway! Plus, sizes are so all over the place- like you mentioned on my post about Marilyn Monroe- what once was a size 12 is now about a 7 or 8! Buying what fits seems to make the most sense!
