How To Make Your Own Vegan Body Scrub

Body scrub is a winter essential. Between exposure to harsh weather and dry skin, it’s important to do what you can to give your skin some extra TLC. It’s also just a nice way to pamper yourself. Body scrubs can help keep your skin fresh and glowing, they help to exfoliate dead skin cells, increase blood flow (which some experts say may help with cellulite), and they are also a nice way to prep your skin for self tanning lotions.

I have several body scrubs that I like to mix up at home. While you can purchase them pre-made (Lush’s Sugar Scrub is a good vegan option), they are very quick, easy and cheap to make at home. Odds are that you also already have the ingredients on hand as well. Here, I share some of my favorite vegan body scrub recipes.

DIY Vegan Salt Scrub

Mix together 3/4 cup epsom salts, 1/4 cup baking soda and just enough coconut oil to make a paste.

** People with high blood pressure, heart conditions or diabetes are typically warned against using epsom salts.

DIY Vegan Sugar and Coffee Scrub

Mix together 1 cup sugar (make sure it’s vegan sugar), 1/2 cup used coffee grounds (ideally from freshly brewed so they are warm), and 1/4 cup olive oil.

DIY Vegan Coconut Oil and Brown Sugar Scrub

Mix together 1 cup brown sugar (again, make sure it’s vegan sugar) and 1/2 cup coconut oil.

Important things to note about making your own vegan body scrubs –

  • Always clean your shower after. The oil used is going to leave the inside slippery.
  • You can store any unused portions for up to 2 weeks. Keep them in a tightly sealed glass jar in the refrigerator.
  • Add about 5 drops of any essential oil to the above scrubs to give them a better boost. Great options are lavender, peppermint, grapefruit, and vanilla.

There are endless combinations when it comes to making your own vegan body scrubs! Do you ever make yours? Please share your favorites in the comments!
