Fashion Meme

Getting more into the personal fashion and style here at Logical Harmony, I thought that it would be fun to do a Fashion Meme. Fellow bloggers Katy, J, and Christine have already done this meme. So why not?

Name the item of clothing that has been with you the longest: My black low top Converse Chuck Taylors. I got them when I was 17 (and I’m 25 now) and I still wear them all the time. There are holes in the soles and they are totally falling apart, but they are so comfortable that I just can’t get rid of them! I’ve been amazed that they have lasted this long. If we’re talking actual items of cloth, then I’m not really sure. I worked at a resale store for a while and became very into the habit of frequently purging my closet of things I hadn’t worn in ages. Now that I think about it, the sweatshirt that I’m wearing now is one that I got when I was around 19. It’s a big, comfy, Ben Kweller sweatshirt that I picked up at a concert of his in Portland, OR.

Other than jeans, what’s an article of clothing that you can’t live without? Cardigans! I don’t think that there are enough words to express my need and love of cardigans. On the average day, I am wearing one. I have so many that I actually store them in three large durable shopping bags. It’s quite an addiction.

What was the last item of clothing you bought? If I’m being 100% honest here, then just a plain white tank top. But that’s way too boring to be my answer here since the week before that I brought home several amazing items on a great shopping trip. I got a cropped navy blazer that I’m obsessed with, a plaid pea coat that I’ve wanted for months, a striped cashmere hoodie, a striped cardigan, and a plaid shirt. These purchases make that very obvious that I dig stripes and plaid.

Describe your perfect winter & summer footwear: I pretty much live in Converse Chuck Taylors, Bearpaw boots, ballet flats, and flip flops year round. I really would love to get some boots and heels to incorporate into my wardrobe. Right now, I’m seriously lusting over the Nora Platform Pumps from Forever 21 (and multi-strap Mary Jane heels in general) and the Brianda Slouched Boots from Forever 21.

What’s a good, ethical clothing brand you’d recommend? To be honest, I don’t really believe that too many clothing brands are ethical these days. Instead of trying to find one, I’d suggest buying local and sustainable. Hit up your local thrift stores and resale shops, like Buffalo Exchange. Check out small businesses in your area and online and support the little guy! Threadless and Etsy are great for that.

And what’s a brand you wouldn’t recommend? Again, I don’t think that many are ethical. Just do what you can to support your local community, buy recycled items, and help out the small guy. One brand that I’m actually not completely cool with is American Apparel. I’ve heard that the CEO is quite pushy sexually with female employees and models. I’m not sure if it’s truth or rumors, but it’s beyond uncool.

What’s the ugliest trend of all time? Denim mini skirts with ruffles, denim mini skirts with Uggs, denim mini skirts and cropped leggings… Do you see a trend here? I just hate when wardrobe staples get turned into fashion roadkill by bad trends. If you want to be trendy, keep it inline. I also dislike Ed Hardy, tattoo print items, and Baby Phat.

And the best? I love menswear, geek chic, and boho chic.

What was your biggest fashion faux-pas? Just not caring about how I looked in general. I went through a few years where I was really insecure and unhappy with my appearance. Because of that, I hid in over-sized shirts and put very little effort into how I looked. Now I’ve learned that, even on the days you feel fat and ugly, it’s best to throw on something hot and let the outfit do the work for you.

What colors predominate in your wardrobe? White, navy blue, gray, and pink.

What are your vintage shopping strategies? Dig! Everyone says that, but it’s so true. Basically every tip in my How To Find Deals at Thrift Stores post.

What’s the most insane piece of clothing that you have ever owned? I think it’s very true that some items are too great to be passed up even if you will never wear them. My piece isn’t necessarily insane but it is completely unnecessary – a pair of baby blue ruffled bloomers. I’ve never worn them and can’t imagine that I ever will, but they are fabulous and I had to have them.

If you could describe the majority of the clothes you own in one word, what would it be? Simple. I love the versatility of simple pieces because you can do anything you want to with them.

Yeah I think as long as you are confident in your outfit, you would always feel good! I’ve been wearing a lot of simple tops and stuff as well and then just adding a necklace or something to it. It’s simple but looks good!

And how can I forget cardis? I lovee them too!

Love how personal your posts are getting! I don’t mind that AA may be guilty of sexual harassment. I’m way more concerned with their environmental impact.

  3. Tashina Says:

    J, I don’t mean sexual harassment.
