Reader Poll : What Brand Information Do You Want To See?

Reader Poll : What Brand Information Do You Want To See?

As you all know, I have an in depth process that I go through to verify that brands are truly animal friendly before I will promote them on Logical Harmony. Through this, I have confirmed that a lot of great brands are animal friendly (either completely cruelty free and/or vegan). Unfortunately, through this I have also found out that a lot of well known brands aren’t animal friendly either. Sometimes it’s a straight up confirmation from the brand, sometimes it’s a refusal to answer my questions, and other times it’s an intentional confusing answer.

I’ve been trying to just share the animal friendly brands with readers, but am now wondering if people would also like to know about the brands that they should avoid too. I really wanted Logical Harmony to be a positive toned blog, but am now thinking that it would be good to make more people aware of the brands that aren’t animal friendly. I’d really love your input on this!

Would you like to hear about brands that aren't animal friendly?

It’s girly and classic and a bit over-the-top but totally perfect style inspiration for me.

How To Make Your Own Dry Shampoo

How To Make Your Own Dry Shampoo

One product that many women can’t live without is dry shampoo. Celebs like Lauren Conrad have talked a lot about how great dry shampoo is, and if you’ve tried it before odds are that you agree. Using dry shampoo is a great way to keep your hair looking fresh in between washes. Dry shampoo is also a great way to add volume to fine or limp locks. I’ve tried several that I’ve loved, but the cost of using a commercial dry shampoo really adds up. I prefer to save them for special events now and have learned how to make my own dry shampoo for daily use. In this post, I’ll show you How To Make Your Own Dry Shampoo. Best of all, you’ll know that it’s animal friendly.

What you will need to make your own dry shampoo :

  • 1 cup cornstarch (To be completely animal friendly, please make sure that you are buying a brand that doesn’t test on animals. Clabber Girl and Rapunzel are two great vegan corn starch brands.)
  • 1 tablespoon baking cocoa powder. This is optional and best for people with dark hair as it will help the corn starch blend with your hair color. (To be completely animal friendly, please make sure that you are buying a brand that doesn’t test on animals. Navitas Naturals and Equal Exchange are two great vegan cocoa powder brands.)
  • A spare jar or old powder container. I like to use old loose powder containers.

How To Make Your Own Dry Shampoo :

  1. If you wish to add cocoa powder in with your cornstarch, mix the two together in a bowl.
  2. Add the powder mixture into the container of your choice.
  3. Apply the cornstarch mixture to your hair, focusing on your roots and around your scalp. Massage it in as if you were actually shampooing your hair.
  4. Depending on how many days it’s been since your hair had a real shampoo, you may wish to leave the cornstarch in for a few minutes.
  5. Brush out the cornstarch mixture. A nylon bristle brush works best for this. A nylon bristle brush is the animal friendly version of a natural bristle brush, which uses animal hair. As you brush out the cornstarch, all the dirt and oil in your hair will come out with it.

Do you make your own dry shampoo? What are your tips for making it? If not, what is your favorite store bought dry shampoo?

How To Deal With Dark Eye Circles

How To Deal With Dark Eye Circles

Let’s face the facts here – there’s a reason that there is such a huge market for concealer. Many of us have issues with dark eye circles. They are one of the most annoying things to deal with because it often seems like nothing you do will make them go away. Genetics are usually the main culprit behind dark eye circles. Age also comes into play because they often get worse as we get older and our skin cells start to weaken. So while that means you might be stuck dealing with them, there are several ways to take care of your eye circles without spending a fortune.

  • Remember that the skin around your eyes is extremely delicate and treat it correctly. Gently remove your makeup, don’t rub your eyes, and don’t pull the skin around your eyes when applying your makeup. These small habits can all make dark eye circles worse.
  • Make sure that you are using a good eye cream. Beautisol’s Bright Eyed eye cream (check out my review!) is great and I also really like the Yes to Blueberries Brightening Eye Roller (review coming soon!). Reviva Labs’ RevitalEyes Serum looks like a great product too. Derma e also makes several eye creams as well.  All of these products are both cruelty free and vegan.
  • Try green or chamomile tea bags. Brew it as normal, then let the tea bags cool (stick them in a freezer for some extra help!) and sit with them on your eyes for 10 minutes. Some say that the caffeine in green tea helps with your eye circles more, while others prefer chamomile. Ultimately, it’s up to you.
  • Try potato or cucumber slices. Cut thin slices of either vegetable, let them cool in the fridge, and let sit on your eyes for 10 minutes.
  • Stay hydrated!! Drinking more water will help with any and all of your skin woes. This also means avoiding a lot of caffeine and salt since they dehydrate you.

What are your favorite tips to help you deal with dark eye circles?

Christie Brinkley Skin Care Review

Christie Brinkley Skin Care Review
Christie Brinkley wants you to look younger, too

Hi everyone. I’m Shannonmarie of Rawdorable, with my first contributing post to Logical Harmony. Before I get started, I just wanted to say thank you, Tashina, for this fun opportunity.

Now, back to today’s post. If you’re familiar with my blog, you may recall me mentioning some Christie Brinkley Skincare samples I was expecting to receive in the mail. Well, they finally arrived not long ago, and I went straight to testing them out for you.

I received a small packet of the Daytime Rejuvenating Treatment and another small packet of the Overnight Repair Treatment. To my surprise, it was a little more than enough to get me through my standard one-week trial period (I try to use a skincare product for at least a week before posting a review). I didn’t need much of the light day treatment, which absorbs nicely into my skin (the overnight treatment is thicker and tends to sit on top of the skin, so I’d advise using it sparingly, as well).

She won’t wear leather or fur, and likewise, opts to keep animal products off her skin altogether (with the exception of the occasional bee product, which she wishes some of her favorite products would reformulate to avoid them, too). She prefers to be as natural as possible (which is why a bee product may win over one with more chemicals), while still being a “girlie girl” type (a girl has got to express herself, even if it means sometimes sporting cruelty-free vegan nail polish, which is never totally natural).

How To Find Out If Products Are Animal Friendly

How To Find Out If Products Are Animal Friendly
Lately there’s been a lot of buzz about people realizing that products labeled “cruelty free” aren’t actually so. It’s been covered by Glamour and the New York Times. With the rise of popularity of these products, a lot of brands are throwing on the label just to make a quick buck. “Cruelty free” is now a marketing term for a lot of brands instead of the ethical stance that it should be.

Did you know that the FDA doesn’t actually regulate the use of these phrases? What one company calls “cruelty free” can mean that their product isn’t tested on animals at any step and neither are their ingredients. Yet what another company calls “cruelty free” can mean that only the finished product isn’t tested on animals, but it was during the production and/or contains ingredients that have been. This is why it’s so important to educate yourself on what it means to use animal friendly products. There are third-party companies that verify this information, like Leaping Bunny, but I think it’s always good to find out for yourself.

While Logical Harmony covers both cruelty free and vegan products, I have to be honest about the fact that I only use vegan products. I cover cruelty free products because I realize that not everyone is ready to live a vegan lifestyle. I want to create an open dialogue with my readers and make everyone feel included. I also think that everyone has to start somewhere and buying cruelty free is better than nothing. However, with this becoming a hot issue, I do want to make sure that people realize cruelty free just means there was no animal testing. These products often contain animal ingredients that an animal did have to die for. They are by no means actually free from cruelty to animals.

In this post, I’ll show you How To Find Out If Products Are Animal Friendly. This is something that I do with everything I use. Not only are my cosmetics, hair care products and household cleaning products vegan, but so are my toothbrush and razor. It takes a little extra work, but knowing that your products are truly animal friendly is well worth it. I go through all of these steps with everything I use. I think it’s really important to be educated about what you are using and to be able to stand behind the products and brands you use.
