Beyond Basic Gold Hoops
For decades now, one of the staple items in any women’s jewelry box are a pair of rather large gold hoop earrings. One of the best ways to add some spice to your wardrobe is by tossing a pair on. You instantly feel a little more glam than you did before, and they add a nice touch to any outfit. I’m a fan of the new variations of the standard gold hoop that have been coming out in the past year or two. Here are some of my recent favorites.
To me, the Gold Heart Doorknockers from Fred Flare, and the perfect ghetto fabulous pair of earrings. They are perfect to wear with such a wide range of styles and add the perfect amount of funkiness to them all. At only $10.00 USD, these definitely won’t break the bank. I bought these back in August of 2007, and I know that both myself and J rock these earrings quite frequently. My favorite summer look that revolves around these earrings includes too short cut off denim shorts, black flip flops with rainbow striped straps (just like the ones from the 1970′s), and layered tank tops. With bonus points for a feathered hair style.
Personally, I couldn’t decided if I loved or hated the Zodiac Hoops from Fred Flare. They are so incredibly tacky and cheesy, and that is the main appeal of them. To me, they are a good pair of earrings to wear with an extremely over the top outfit with fashion inspiration from the late 1970′s and early 1980′s disco era. They are ridiculous, and should be appreciated for that reason alone. I decided to include them in this post because, well, I believe that any piece of jewelry or clothing that gets a reaction out of you deserves to be recognized. They are only $10.00 USD, which is a decent price for these.
If you are looking for something that has a bit more class than the above two pairs, check out the XL Etched Hoops from Wet Seal. I love that they include the tribal etching designs that never go out of style. They are cute enough to be worn with a casual or dressy outfit, too. While Wet Seal doesn’t sell the highest quality items, you are always garaunteed to find something that’s both incredibly cute and incredibly affordable. At only $6.00 USD, these earrings are definitely going to be friendly to your wallet.
The Filigree Hoop Earrings from Urban Outfitters are part of the hippie trend that is going to be huge this spring. These earrings are cute and feminine, without being too girly. They would be perfect to wear with paisley printed blouses, jeans, and sandals. Or, wear them with a casual sundress, and a few layered necklaces. Only $16.00 USD will get you these incredibly versatile and cute earrings.
We’ve been talking about trying to make it out to Vegas this year. So, before I head off to work, I think that I might check out the prices on a Vegas hotel or two.

PLEASE don’t let those doorknockers go out of style! I have gold ones (from Wet Seal actually), and I have those ones you posted from Wet Seal only in silver. Err, I had them until one of them broke anyway.
I don’t wear much jewelry, but when I do, I love earrings the mostest.
You got yours at Wet Seal? I got them at Charlotte Russe! I think it’s so funny how a lot of those stores get the same items from the same merchants. I need to hit up the Wet Seal and Forever 21 here soon for some earrings.
Yep, I got a pair of gold and a pair of silver bamboo hoops for $5 each pair. I was so stoked because I hardly ever go in Wet Seal and they were my last try after scouring the mall and not finding any. Maybe they have them more places now, but I got mine almost a year ago.
A lot of those stores buy from the same places though. When I worked at B.E. we bought from some of the same places too. Once we got shirts in our new merch. with Charlotte Russe tags sewn into them! Or when we’d go to C.R., F21, Wet Seal, and even Urban Outfitters we’d see stuff that we would get in new merch.
I love the ones from Urban. They’re a little more delicate imo and they are also lighter on the ears. I used to have my ears stretched so finding a pair of big hoops that’s light is a must for me! Great post and pictures. The zodiac ones are so unique!
ps- I added you on last.fm. I finally jumped the last.fm bandwagon!
That is so true, hoops get so heavy! I can’t wear them for more than 1 day at a time.
I need those heart door knockers in my life. It’s funny because when I was looking at your flickr last night, and I was just going to ask you were you brought them today.
Check Charlotte Russe too!
I <3 those! I think some girls can make hoop earrings look totally trashy, but when they’re done right, they look so glamorous! The ones you posted arre great.
Hoops can either look trashy or classy. It all depends on what you wear them with. Sometimes, I think it’s fun to run with the trashy part as a joke. That’s why I love wearing mine with a 70′s style outfit & super short shorts.
I live in hoops.
I usually wear small ones. No large earrings allowed at work. But I have several pairs.
…I live in hoop earrings, I mean…
Love the zodiac hoops and the filigree hoops! however, i’m not really into hoops. don’t like how they feel. =/
They are heavy, and sometimes that just gets to be annoying/painful.
I’m not too fond of the Leo hoops, but I LOVE the first and third style. Maybe I’ll go get myself a pair. I’m not the biggest fan of gold, but silver tones don’t go with everything I own.
About what you asked me about crochet, I’ll get back to you! I could recommend you a great book, and I’m sure I’ve bookmarked a good tut to learn to crochet online, so I’ll let you know!
Haha, the Leo ones are so tacky! I had to include them for that reason! I’m not a huge fan of gold myself, but there are certain pieces that just don’t look right if they are silver.
Thank you so much! I’d love any info you wanted to share!
