A Beauty Survey
While I do try to keep the personal content on this blog to a minimum, there are going to be exceptions. There was a beauty survey posted on Self Styled recently. I loved the idea of it so much that I thought I’d post it here!
If you are a new reader to this blog, make sure to read this as I’m including tips and links to all kinds of blog posts from the archives!
My Foundation: I will be the first to admit that I am extremely cheap when it comes to foundation. I have a very hard time finding formulas that I like. So many foundations look great when you first apply them but, by the end of the day, well, it’s not so pretty. I make my own tinted moisturizer with CoverGirl Clean Make Up and Olay Complete All Day UV Moisture Lotion SPF 15 for Combination/Oily skin. It works well for my skin, and for my wallet. I get both formulas for oil control to help keep my skin looking fresh through out the day.
My Mascara: I love mascara. I have naturally long but fine lashes, so a good mascara really helps give them the added oomph that they need. My all time favorite mascara, of both low end and high end types, is Maybelline Full’N Soft Waterproof Mascara. My other favorites are CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara (which I reviewed in my post Beauty Reviews: CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara) and Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara. If you’re interested in learning some tips on mascara application, I have written a three part blog post series : Cosmetics : Mascara Tips Part One, Cosmetics : Mascara Tips Part Two and Cosmetics : Mascara Tips Part Three.
My Blush: I’m currently in love with bright pink blush. I once read that just a single swipe of a bright pink blush always looks more natural than layers of a more natural looking color. After trying it out, I couldn’t agree more. After a recent trip to a Benefit counter, I loved Benefit Thrrrob Blush. I even wrote about it my post Wishlist : Benefit Cosmetics. However, due to the price tag I decided to search drugstores for a cheaper option. My current favorite is CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Classic Pink. You can read my review of this blush in my post A Drugstore Thrrrob Blush Look-A-Like.
My Eye Shadow: I use so many colors and brands that I’m not sure if I could even list them all!! I’ll go with my basic every day look instead. First, I use Urban Decay Eyehadow Primer Potion (read my full review to learn more). This helps my shadows go on smoother, stay on longer and prevents creasing. Then I use MAC Pigment in Tan on my entire lid, focusing on the inner corner of my eye lid. Using the Rimmel London Colour Rush Trio Eyeshadow in Orion. I apply the darker matte brown to the crease and outer corner of my eyelid. I apply the lighter and slightly shimmery brown to the center of my lid and also use it to blend the MAC pigment and the darker shade. The lightest color in the kit, which is a champagne color, is what I use to contour my brows and on the inner corners of my eyes as a highlighter.
My Day Cream: Before applying it in my D.I.Y. tinted moisturizer, I use Olay Complete All Day UV Moisture Lotion SPF 15 on my face. If it’s been cold outside I’ll apply a second layer before applying my foundation primer.
My Lipstick: In all honesty, I’ve never worn lipstick and I doubt that I will. I’m just not a big fan of the stuff. However, I do love lip gloss! I have way too many tubes of the stuff. In my small cosmetics bag that I carry in my purse I carry my favorites, which are : MAC Tendertone in Take A Hint, Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, Philosophy Soul Mates Grapefruit Lip Gelato, Smith’s Rosebud Salve, and CoverGirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Watermelon Splash to name a few. I really want to try out some higher end glosses, like the ones in my post Sephora Wishlist : Lip Gloss.
My Beauty Product Brand: I don’t have a brand. I love to try new products and, whether it’s a drugstore brand or only available at a department store cosmetics counter, I think that every brand has products that they make well and others that could use improving.
My Essential Beauty Product: Moisturizer! More specifically, Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The stuff is amazing! I blogged about some beauty tips using olive oil months ago in my post Sephora = danger, the wonders of olive oil…. Mix warm olive oil with warm honey and you have a great face treatment that naturally moisturizes and tones.
My Favorite Makeup Product: Black eyeliner! Recently, I’ve found a new favorite pencil liner in CoverGirl Outlast Smoothwear All-Day Eyeliner in Onyx (you can read my review in my post Product Reviews : CoverGirl Outlast Smoothwear All-Day Eyeliner). If I’m using liquid liner, I use Maybelline Lineworks Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. Recently, I purchased Sephora Liner Electro – Glitter Eye Pencil, but haven’t been too happy with it. Mostly because each time I’ve worn it, I’ve ended up with glitter in my eye. Ouch!
My Perfume: My signature scent is Britney Spears’ Curious. It’s light and feminine. You can read about my other favorites in my post Fragrance Favorites.
My Nails: I keep them natural. If I do paint them, it tends to be either with black polish or a basic French manicure. When I get stressed out, I bite my nails, so I try to pamper them in hopes to avoid this. To read my nail care tips, check out my posts Nail Care Tips and Natural nails, the new trend…, which gives step by step instructions for your own perfect at home manicure. My toes, on the other hand, are a totally different story. I love using bright colors, like I blogged about in my post Current Obsession : Bright Pink Nail Color.
My Feet & My Hands: Smith’s Rosebud Salve owns me. I use it on my hands constantly. For my feet, I’ll just slather on some Vaseline and cotton socks.
Three Products to bring on a deserted island: Smith’s Rosebud Salve, black eyeliner (I’m hopelessly addicted), and sun screen!
Woman I admire for beauty: Drew Barrymore. She’s such a natural beauty.
Woman with the Best Sense of Style: Gwen Stefani! I adore her style. She’s not afraid to try new things, dresses for herself, and doesn’t care what others think about her style.
My Ultimate Dream: In the beauty sense, to be able to expand and grow on my interest and knowledge in the cosmetics and skin care area. You only have one body, and I can never get enough information on how to take better care of it.
How Do I Define Womanhood: This is the cheesiest survey question ever. Wow. I refuse to answer that because I don’t think it can be defined.
My Favorite Fashion Publication(s): I love and subscribe to Glamour, Vogue, Nylon, and W. I also like to read In Style as well.

I may have to do that survey. We use lots of the same products! That Olay lotion is my FAVE, another one I love since I stole my mom’s! I also love BadGal mascara and that CG blush. Great post, and I love all the links. This will be super helpful for anyone just starting to get into makeup.
I’m the same way when it comes to lipstick. The only time I’ve ever worn it was for dancing, and never again since. I feel like I look too fake with it on. Lipgloss is my lifesaver.
This was a really cool survey!
Nice little survey. Yeah I’m not a lipstick wearer either but I do join you on the love of the black eyeliner. Won’t leave the house withouth the stuff. Does animal testing bother you? Do you try to use products that aren’t tested on them or do you not really think about it?
